Exodus 12:29

"The children of Israel went and did so; as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did."

Key Reflection

This verse illustrates the obedience of the Israelites to God’s commands through Moses and Aaron, highlighting how their actions mirrored divine directives precisely. Such meticulous adherence served as a model for faithful response to God's will in the broader narrative of deliverance and covenant faithfulness.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

This plague is distinctly attributed here and inExodus 12:23to the personal intervention of the Lord; but it is to be observed that although the Lord Himself passed through to smite the Egyptians, He employed the agency of “the destroyer”Exodus 12:23, in whom, in accordance withHebrews 11:28, all the ancient versions, and most critics, recognize an Angel (compare2 Kings 19:35;2 Samuel 24:16).
