Exodus 12:15

"This day shall be a memorial for you. You shall keep it as a feast to the LORD. You shall keep it as a feast throughout your generations by an ordinance forever."

Key Reflection

For the ancient Israelites, this command from Exodus 12:15 established a permanent remembrance of their deliverance from Egypt through the Passover feast. By setting aside this day as a memorial and a recurring feast, God ensured that the story of their liberation would be passed down through generations, serving not only as a historical event but also as a continuous reminder of His covenantal faithfulness and His power to rescue.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Cut off -The penalty inflicted on those who transgressed the command may be accounted for on the ground that it was an act of rebellion; but additional light is thrown upon it by the typical meaning assigned to leaven by our Lord,Matthew 16:6.
