Exodus 12:14

"The blood shall be to you for a token on the houses where you are. When I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt."

Key Reflection

Exodus 12:14 speaks directly to the symbolism and protection offered through the Passover sacrifice. The blood of the lamb is not only a mark that identifies the household as partaking in the paschal meal, but it also serves as a divine sign for God to "pass over" and protect those inside from the fatal plague He sends upon Egypt. This act underscores the covenant relationship between God and His people, highlighting both their obedience through following instructions and God's fidelity in delivering on His promises of deliverance and protection.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

A memorial -A commemorative and sacramental ordinance of perpetual obligation. As such, it has ever been observed by the Hebrews. By the Christian it is spiritually observed; its full significance is recognized, and all that it foreshadowed is realized, in the sacrament of holy communion.
