Jeremiah 50:9

"“Flee out of the middle of Babylon! Go out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the male goats before the flocks."

Key Reflection

This verse commands a swift departure from Babylon's oppressive and corrupt influence, symbolizing spiritual liberation. By likening themselves to male goats leading the flock, the people are encouraged to take the lead in this exodus, embodying strength and guidance as they seek freedom and purity outside of Babylon’s bounds.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

I will raise -Or, stir up. An assembly of great nations -The Medo-Persian empire was as much an aggregate of discordant nations as that of Babylon. From thence -From the north, i. e., by the great nations coming thence. Return in vain -A proverbial expression for ill success (compareIsaiah 55:11). Here the skillful warrior returns not empty.
