Jeremiah 50:33

"The proud one will stumble and fall, and no one will raise him up. I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it will devour all who are around him.”"

Key Reflection

This verse portrays the downfall of those who are proud and rebellious, highlighting that their fall is irreversible, with no one to help them rise again. The metaphor of a fire consuming their cities symbolizes divine judgment that will leave nothing but destruction in its wake.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Were oppressed -are “oppressed together: and all their captors have laid firm hold upon them: they have refused to let them go.” The restoration of Israel and Judah to their land is necessary. As Babylon will not let them go, it must be broken, and its empire destroyed.
