Jeremiah 50:35

"Their Redeemer is strong. The LORD of Armies is his name. He will thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon."

Key Reflection

The verse from Jeremiah 50:35 speaks of a powerful Redeemer who is none other than the LORD of Armies. This deity will vigorously defend and advocate for those in need, ensuring justice is served. Through this act of righteousness, He will bring peace to the earth, but simultaneously cause turmoil among the inhabitants of Babylon, indicating that His intervention will disrupt the current order of things. This passage reflects a divine commitment to redemptive justice, where God's strength and authority are on full display, reshaping the world according to His will.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Omit “is.” A summons comes from Yahweh, Israel’s Goel, to the sword to fall upon all the elements of Babylon’s greatness. The princes were her rulers at home and her generals in war. The wise men were those upon whose learning she so prided herself (Daniel 1:4note).
