Acts 5:17

"The multitude also came together from the cities around Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits; and they were all healed."

Key Reflection

In the first century, Jerusalem was a focal point for religious and political activity, drawing pilgrims from across the Roman Empire. The healing of sick people and those tormented by unclean spirits in Acts 5:17 would have been seen as powerful validation of the apostles' divine authority and the authenticity of their message. This miraculous display underscored that God's power extended beyond Jerusalem’s boundaries, demonstrating His active involvement in the lives of distant believers and affirming the church’s mission to heal and deliver from spiritual and physical afflictions.

This expression is sometimes redundant, and at others it means simply to begin to do a thing, or to resolve to do it. Comp. Lu 15:18. And all they that were with him. That is, all they that coincided with him in doctrine or opinion; or, in other words, that portion of the sanhedrim that was composed of Sadducees.
