Matthew 13:7

"When the sun had risen, they were scorched. Because they had no root, they withered away."

Key Reflection

In Matthew 13:7, when Jesus describes how the seeds fell among thorns and were scorched by the sun, "because they had no root," he illustrates that those who hear the word of God but do not allow it to take deep root in their lives will be easily discouraged or abandoned by trials and difficulties, ultimately withering away. This metaphor highlights the importance of a strong spiritual foundation for enduring faith.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 7. Among thorns. That is, in a part of the field where the thorns and shrubs had been imperfectly cleared away, and not destroyed. They grew with the grain, crowded it, shaded it, exhausted the earth, and thus choked it. __________________________________________________________________
