Mark 2:24

"He was going on the Sabbath day through the grain fields; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of grain."

Key Reflection

This scene in Mark 2:24 illustrates Jesus' authority over the law, showing that spiritual needs take precedence over strict Sabbath observance. By allowing his hungry disciples to gather grain, Jesus emphasizes compassion and practicality as essential aspects of religious practice.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 24. That which is not lawful. That is, that which they esteemed to be unlawful on the sabbath day. It was made lawful by Moses, without any distinction of days; but they had denied its lawfulness on the sabbath. Christ shows them, from their own law, that it was not unlawful. __________________________________________________________________
