Mark 2:22
"No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, or else the patch shrinks and the new tears away from the old, and a worse hole is made."
Key Reflection
In first-century Palestine, clothing was often hand-sewn using linen or wool that shrunk when washed. When a tear needed to be mended, a patch of unshrunk fabric would not fit properly after washing, leading to a larger hole. Jesus used this practical example to illustrate the principle that new and old cannot coexist without conflict. This teaching foreshadowed the coming kingdom of God as something entirely new that could not be shoehorned into existing religious traditions and practices.
