John 5:33

"It is another who testifies about me. I know that the testimony which he testifies about me is true."

Key Reflection

In John 5:33, Jesus acknowledges that another witness testifies on his behalf, affirming the truth of his message. This suggests that even when he is not present, there are reliable voices confirming his mission and authority.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 33. Ye sent unto John. See Joh 1:19. He bare witness, &c. This testimony of John ought to have satisfied them. John was an eminent man; many of the Pharisees believed on him; he was candid, unambitious, sincere, and his evidence was impartial. On this Jesus might have rested the proof that he was the Messiah, but he was willing, also, to adduce evidence of a higher order. {f} "he bare witness" Joh 1:7,32 __________________________________________________________________
