John 1:19

"No one has seen God at any time. The only born Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, has declared him."

Key Reflection

"No one has seen God at any time" underscores God's invisibility and the impossibility for mere mortals to fully comprehend or directly perceive Him. The "only born Son," Jesus Christ, uniquely holds this intimate relationship with the Father, being both His earthly representative and the means through which we can know God, as He reveals divine attributes and purposes.

They felt it to be their duty, therefore, to inquire into the character and claims of John, and to learn whether he was the Messiah.
