John 19:25

"Then they said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it to decide whose it will be,” that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which says, “They parted my garments among them. They cast lots for my clothing.” Therefore the soldiers did these things."

Key Reflection

This passage highlights the fulfillment of prophecy through the actions of the soldiers. By casting lots for Jesus' garments, they unwittingly fulfilled a verse from Psalm 22, symbolizing the abandonment and division experienced by God's suffering servant, emphasizing the profound fulfillment of divine purpose in the crucifixion.
