Job 40:13

"Look at everyone who is proud, and humble him. Crush the wicked in their place."

Key Reflection

In Job 40:13, God instructs his prophet to confront and humble those who are proud and wicked. The original audience, familiar with the social structures of ancient Israel, would understand that this command reflects the divine authority to judge and correct moral transgressions. This verse underscores the idea that God has the power to bring down arrogance and punish evil, aligning with the broader narrative theme of divine justice in the Book of Job.

Hide them in the dust together; -compareIsaiah 2:10. The meaning seems to be, that God had power to prostrate the wicked in the dust of the earth, and he calls upon Job to show his power by doing the same thing. And bind their faces in secret -The word “faces” here is probably used (like the Greekπρίσωπαprisōpato denote “persons.” The phrase” to bind them,” is expressive of having them under control or subjection; and the phrase “in secret” may refer to some secret or safe place - as a dungeon or prison.
