Isaiah 38:10

"The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and had recovered of his sickness:"

Key Reflection

In Isaiah 38:10, Hezekiah, after recovering from a life-threatening illness, wrote about his experience. This writing was significant because it reflected the profound gratitude and recognition of divine intervention that many scholars suggest underlies the verse. The historical context is one of divine deliverance, where God miraculously prolonged Hezekiah's life, allowing him to see the destruction of Sennacherib’s army and the subsequent prosperity of Judah under his reign. This event served not only as a personal testament but also as an example of God's power and faithfulness to His people.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

I said -Probably the words ‘I said’ do not imply that he said or spoke this openly or audibly; but this was the language of his heart, or the substance of his reflections. In the cutting off of my days -There has been considerable diversity of interpretation in regard to this phrase. Vitringa renders it as our translators have done. Rosenmuller renders it, ‘In the meridian of my days.’ The Septuagint,Ἐν τῷ ὕψει τῶν ἡμερῶν μουEntōhupseitōnhēmerōnmou- ‘In the height of my days,’ where they evidently readברמיinstead ofבדמי, by the change of a single letter.
