Psalms 89:26

"I will set his hand also on the sea, and his right hand on the rivers."

Key Reflection

In Psalms 89:26, God declares His enduring commitment to a covenant partner—likely referring to Israel or a specific king. The imagery of setting one's hand "on the sea and the rivers" is powerful; it suggests control over natural boundaries, symbolizing God's sovereignty over all creation. This verse underscores that God’s faithfulness extends beyond physical borders, emphasizing His steadfast love and loyalty as foundational to the covenant relationship.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

He shall cry unto me, Thou art my Father -He shall appeal to me, or come to me as a Father, and as his only hope and defense. My God -He shall come to me as God, and shall recognize me as his God, his only trust and hope. And the rock of my salvation -See the notes atPsalms 18:2. The meaning of all this is, that he would at all times recognize him as his only trust and hope, and that he would be faithful on his part to God.
