Psalms 78:10

"The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle."

Key Reflection

In Psalms 78:10, the verse speaks of the tribe of Ephraim's failure during a battle. Despite their readiness, with arms and bows, they fled when confronted with conflict. This passage highlights the importance of not only physical preparation but also spiritual or moral fortitude, which the Ephraimites lacked. The cultural context here reflects the common expectation that Israelite tribes should stand firm in defense; thus, their cowardice stands out as a significant failing.
