Numbers 18:21

"The LORD said to Aaron, “You shall have no inheritance in their land, neither shall you have any portion among them. I am your portion and your inheritance among the children of Israel."

Key Reflection

This passage underscores that as a priest, Aaron's and his descendants' spiritual role is greater than earthly possessions. The LORD promises to be their ultimate inheritance, ensuring their significance lies not in material wealth but in their sacred duties and the covenant relationship with God.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek: Jacob had promised the tithe of all wherewith God blessed him if he should return in peace to his father’s house. But now first the Lord’s tithes are assigned to the Levites for their support (compareLeviticus 27:30). The payment of tithes to them is recognized inNehemiah 10:37;Nehemiah 12:44; Tobit 1:7.
