Numbers 18:1

"Numbers."

Key Reflection

In Numbers 18:1, God instructs Aaron and his sons to join Moses, ensuring they are united with him in ministry. This act of joining suggests a close working relationship where the Levites assist Moses directly. The cultural context is significant because in ancient Israelite society, such service was typically performed by low-ranking slaves or servants. By having family members perform this task, it underscores the special nature and importance of their role within the priesthood, highlighting both the dignity and the responsibility赋予利未人如此亲密的参与,既凸显了他们祭司角色的独特性和重要性,也强调了这种服务所承载的责任与尊严。在古代以色列社会中,这样的任务通常由低等仆人或奴隶完成。因此,让家族成员承担这一职责不仅加强了他们的使命感,还突显了他们在神面前独特地位的神圣性质。

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

The iniquity of the sanctuary -i. e. the guilt of the offences which an erring people would be continually committing against the majesty of God, when brought into contact, through the ordinances, with the manifestations of His presence. Compare the marginal reference. The iniquity of your priesthood -As the priests themselves were but men, they were strengthened to bear the iniquity of their own unintentional offences, by being entrusted with the ceremonial means of taking it away (compareLeviticus 16:0).
