Matthew 15:23

"Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders and cried, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David! My daughter is severely possessed by a demon!”"

Key Reflection

This encounter illustrates Jesus' willingness to extend grace beyond national and ethnic boundaries, showing that salvation and mercy are available to all, regardless of background. The Canaanite woman's persistent faith despite initial rejection foreshadows the broader inclusion of Gentiles in God’s kingdom.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 23. But he answered her not a word. This was done to test her faith, and that there might be exhibited to the apostles an example of the effect of persevering supplication. The result shows that it was not unwillingness to aid her, or neglect of her. It was proper that the strength of her faith should be fully tried. {p} "not a word" Ps 28:1; La 3:8 __________________________________________________________________
