Mark 7:20

"because it doesn’t go into his heart, but into his stomach, then into the latrine, making all foods clean?”"

Key Reflection

This verse illustrates that external rituals and traditions do not purify a person's heart or spirit. Instead, what truly matters is internal transformation, as external practices cannot cleanse the soul unless accompanied by genuine repentance and faith.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 20. That which cometh out of the man. His words; the expression of his thoughts and feelings; his conduct, as the expression of in- ward malice, anger, covetousness, lust, etc. Defileth the man. Is really polluted, or offensive in the sight of God. They render the soul corrupt and abominable in the sight of God. See Mt 15:18-20. __________________________________________________________________
