In first-century Galilean culture, encountering a demon-possessed individual was both shocking and dangerous. When the man with the demon saw Jesus from afar, his actions—running and bowing down—demonstrated an immediate recognition of Jesus' authority over evil spirits. This reaction would have been understood by the original audience as a sign that this demoniac, despite his condition, instinctively acknowledged Jesus' divine power and authority, perhaps even in the face of his own distress or fear.
