Mark 11:1

"Mark."

Key Reflection

When they came near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples. (Mark 11:1, WEB) This verse sets the stage for one of Jesus' most significant entries into Jerusalem, marking the beginning of the events that would culminate in his crucifixion. The location, near Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives, was a strategic point from which people could watch as Jesus entered the city. This context highlights the dramatic nature of the event, as it occurred just outside Jerusalem’s walls, where many Jews would have been preparing for Passover and eagerly awaiting deliverance or redemption. The act of sending disciples to prepare for his arrival underscores Jesus' intentionality and divine foreknowledge, aligning with the larger narrative of his mission in Jerusalem.
