Leviticus 13:2

"The LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,"

Key Reflection

In the first century BCE, Leviticus 13:2 marks the beginning of instructions for identifying and dealing with leprosy, a severe skin disease that was considered both physically debilitating and socially isolating. The original audience would have understood these instructions as part of the broader framework of ceremonial laws designed to maintain ritual purity within Israelite society. These laws not only addressed practical hygiene but also reinforced social boundaries and religious devotion, ensuring that those affected by leprosy were cared for while being separated from the community until they could be declared clean.
