Joshua 2:16

"Then she let them down by a cord through the window; for her house was on the side of the wall, and she lived on the wall."

Key Reflection

In first-century Jerusalem, houses often had rooms that extended out from the city walls, creating a natural fortification. For Rahab to lower the spies “by a cord through the window,” her house was strategically situated on the side of the wall itself. This positioning would have provided both a secure hiding place and an escape route for the spies, ensuring their safe passage while minimizing risk to Rahab and her household—a risky yet crucial act of faith that demonstrated her willingness to defy the city's orders and protect the Israelite spies at great personal cost.
