Joshua 11:7

"The LORD said to Joshua, “Don’t be afraid because of them; for tomorrow at this time, I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.”"

Key Reflection

This verse symbolizes the complete defeat and removal of the enemies, emphasizing God's provision of victory and the need for total commitment to his will. Through these actions—hamstringing horses and burning chariots—the physical destruction represents a deeper spiritual cleansing and the establishment of Israel’s dominance under divine leadership.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Suddenly -As before, at GibeonJoshua 10:9, so now Joshua anticipates his enemies. Taken by surprise, and hemmed in between the mountains and the lake, the chariots and horses would have no time to deploy and no room to act effectively; and thus, in all probability, the unwieldy host of the Canaanites fell at once into hopeless confusion.
