John 8:10

"They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Jesus was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle."

Key Reflection

This passage illustrates the power of truth and conviction. When confronted with their own sin, the religious leaders' consciences condemned them, leading them to leave one by one, highlighting their hypocrisy while Jesus remained to offer mercy to the woman caught in adultery.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 10. Hath no man condemned thee? Jesus had directed them, if innocent, to cast a stone, thus to condemn her, or to use the power which he gave them to condemn her. No one of them had done that. They had accused her, but they had not proceeded to the act expressive of judicial condemnation. __________________________________________________________________
