Jeremiah 23:18

"They say continually to those who despise me, ‘The LORD has said, “You will have peace;”’ and to everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart they say, ‘No evil will come on you.’"

Key Reflection

This verse highlights the false prophets' deceptive practices by promising peace to those who reject God's truth and ignoring impending judgment for those in stubborn rebellion. It underscores how such deceit distorts divine messages, leading people astray from genuine security and righteousness.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

The prophet now applies this test to the circumstances of the times. A whirlwind has already gone forthJeremiah 23:19. Had these false prophets stood in God’s secret “Council” (so inJeremiah 23:22), they like Jeremiah would have labored to avert the danger by turning men from their evil way.
