Jeremiah 15:20

"Therefore the LORD says, “If you return, then I will bring you again, that you may stand before me; and if you take out the precious from the vile, you will be as my mouth. They will return to you, but you will not return to them."

Key Reflection

The Lord speaks through Jeremiah, promising that if the people repent and turn back to Him, He will restore them and make them a channel of His message, much like a potter selects precious pieces from among the dross to create something beautiful. This promise reflects the covenant relationship between God and His people, emphasizing the importance of moral purity and divine restoration. The original audience would have understood this in light of their own history, recalling times when Israel had strayed but was brought back through repentance and faithfulness, as seen in historical deliverances like those from Egypt or Babylonian exile.
