Isaiah 65:15

"Behold, my servants will sing for joy of heart, but you will cry for sorrow of heart, and will wail for anguish of spirit."

Key Reflection

In Isaiah 65:15, the prophet contrasts the joyful state of God's faithful servants with the despairing condition of those who have rebelled against Him. The term "servants" in this context refers to those who adhere faithfully to God, symbolizing those who wholeheartedly follow His commandments and find true joy in their relationship with Him. Conversely, those who do not heed God’s ways will experience deep sorrow and anguish, highlighting the stark contrast between obedience and rebellion in the eyes of the Lord.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen -To my people; to those whom I have selected to be my friends. The word rendered here ‘curse’ (שׁבועהshebû‛âh) means properly “an oath,” or “a swearing”; and then “an imprecation” or “a curse” (seeNumbers 5:21;Daniel 9:11). The sense here seems to be, that their punishment would be so great that it would become the subject of imprecation when others wished to bind themselves in the most solemn manner by an oath.
