Isaiah 65:12

"“But you who forsake the LORD, who forget my holy mountain, who prepare a table for Fortune, and who fill up mixed wine to Destiny;"

Key Reflection

This verse contrasts those who abandon God with His faithful servants. Those who forsake the Lord neglect his holy presence and instead offer sacrifices to vain deities, symbolizing their rejection of true worship in favor of false hopes and destinies.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Therefore will I number you to the sword -There is undoubtedly an allusion here to the idol Meni mentioned inIsaiah 65:11, and a play upon the name, in accordance with a custom quite common in the sacred Scriptures. The wordמניתיmâniytiy, ‘I will number,’ is derived fromמנהmânâh, the same word from whichמניmenı̂y, is derived. The idea is, since they worshipped a god whose name denoted number - perhaps one who was supposed to number or appoint the fates of people - God would number them. He would determine their destiny.
