Isaiah 59:12

"We all roar like bears and moan sadly like doves. We look for justice, but there is none, for salvation, but it is far off from us."

Key Reflection

This verse vividly depicts the spiritual anguish of a people in distress, using imagery of bears roaring and doves moaning to convey deep sorrow and despair. They yearn for justice and salvation but find none, highlighting the pervasive sense of God's absence and their dire situation.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Our sins testify against us -Hebrew, ‘Answer against us.’ The idea is, that their past lives had been so depraved that they became witnesses against them (compare the notes atIsaiah 3:9). We know them -We recognize them as our sins, and we cannot conceal from ourselves the fact that we are transgressors.
