Isaiah 10:7
"I will send him against a profane nation, and against the people who anger me I will give him a command to take the plunder and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets."
Key Reflection
In Isaiah 10:7, God speaks through the prophet about a future conqueror who will be sent against nations that have angered Him. The term "profane nation" refers to Gentile nations that do not worship Yahweh and are therefore considered profane in His sight. This passage would have made clear to the original audience that despite the wickedness of these nations, God was sovereign over them, and He would use this conqueror to punish them for their idolatry and rebellion, taking their wealth and crushing them harshly as one might tread mud into the streets.
