Key Reflection

Israel, also known as Jacob, favored Joseph because he was born late in his life and thus seemed to be a special blessing. The tunic of many colors symbolized Joseph's unique status within the family, indicating that he was intended for a position of authority and leadership over his brothers, which would have been understood by the original audience in light of Jacob’s intentions and the tension it created among the siblings.
