"When Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped Joseph of his tunic, the tunic of many colors that was on him;"
Key Reflection
In this passage, Joseph's colorful tunic represents his favored status among Jacob and a symbol of divine favor. When his brothers strip it off him, they are both literally removing the sign of Joseph’s special treatment and, spiritually, erasing any trace of God’s blessing, foreshadowing their subsequent betrayal and the need for redemption through Joseph’s mercy and forgiveness.
