Ezekiel 1:26

"Above the expanse that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone. On the likeness of the throne was a likeness as the appearance of a man on it above."

Key Reflection

Ezekiel 1:26 describes an awe-inspiring vision where the prophet sees a throne, symbolizing divine authority and majesty, situated above what appears to be the heavens. The sapphire-like appearance of this throne signifies its brilliance and holiness, emphasizing the transcendent glory of God. This vivid imagery underscores the profound and majestic presence of the divine in the heavenly realm, setting the stage for the broader vision of Ezekiel's encounter with the divine.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Sapphire -Clear heavenly blue. The appearance of a man -Deeply significant is the form of this manifestation. Here is no angel conveying God’s message to man, but the glory of the Lord Himself. We recognize in this vision the prophetic annunciation of the Holy Incarnation. We are told little of the extent to which the human form was made evident to the prophet.
