Acts 7:28

"But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?"

Key Reflection

In Acts 7:28, Stephen recounts an incident from Moses' early life when he encountered a fight among Israelites. The verse indicates that Moses intervened, pushing away the person who was wronging his neighbor and challenging him with the question, "Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?" This act of intervention reveals Moses’ character as one who sought justice and held himself to a higher standard than those around him. Such an action would have been culturally significant in ancient Israel, where leadership and authority were often contested roles. By questioning his own position, Moses implicitly acknowledged the divine appointment that would later come into full light when he leads the Israelites out of Egypt.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 28. Wilt thou kill me, etc. How it was known that he had killed the Egyptian does not appear. It was probably communicated by the man who was rescued from the hands of the Egyptian, Ex 2:11,12. __________________________________________________________________
