Psalms 90:16

"Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen evil."

Key Reflection

Psalms 90:16 expresses a profound plea for divine favor and restoration after hardship. This verse captures the cycle of trial and tribulation that the psalmist and his people experienced, acknowledging both the duration and intensity of their affliction, yet asking God to make up for this through joy in the days ahead, mirroring the hope that even amidst adversity, there is an ultimate purpose and future blessing from God.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Let thy work appear unto thy servants -That is, thy gracious work of interposition. Let us see thy power displayed in removing these calamities, and in restoring to us the days of health and prosperity. And thy glory unto their children -The manifestation of thy character; the display of thy goodness, of thy power, and thy grace. Let this spreading and wasting evil be checked and removed, so that our children may live, and may have occasion to celebrate thy goodness, and to record the wonders of thy love.
