Psalms 9:8

"But the LORD reigns forever. He has prepared his throne for judgment."

Key Reflection

Psalms 9:8 poetically affirms the eternal sovereignty of God, declaring that His dominion is everlasting and unchanging. By preparing a throne for judgment, God sets forth a framework for justice that will endure indefinitely, ensuring that He will one day evaluate and mete out consequences to all nations. This verse underscores both the permanence of divine rule and the impending nature of divine judgment, providing assurance to those who trust in Him amidst the chaos of human affairs.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

And he shall judge the world in righteousness -The word here rendered world means properly the habitable earth; and then it denotes the inhabitants that dwell upon the earth. The statement here is general, and is suggested by what is referred to in the previous verses. In the particular case on which the psalm turns, God had manifested himself as a just Judge.
