Psalms 107:1

"Psalms."

Key Reflection

The opening line of Psalm 107, "Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever," sets a tone of gratitude and recognition of divine mercy that permeates the entire psalm. This verse invites the reader to reflect on God's ongoing care and provision, underscoring the theme of divine steadfast love in all of life’s circumstances.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good -See the notes atPsalms 106:1. For his mercy endureth for ever -He is unchanging in his mercy. It is an attribute of his very nature. He is constantly manifesting it. The word rendered “mercy” here, however -חסדchesed- is more general in its signification than our word “mercy.” Our word means “favor shown to the guilty;” the Hebrew word means kindness, goodness, benignity in general. It is this which is celebrated in the psalm before us.
