Psalms 104:2

"Bless the LORD, my soul. The LORD, my God, you are very great. You are clothed with honor and majesty."

Key Reflection

Psalms 104:2 opens with a call to bless the Lord, speaking directly from the heart of the psalmist. The imagery of the LORD being "clothed with honor and majesty" (WEB) is rich with significance, drawing on the cultural context where clothing often symbolized status and divine presence. Just as kings were adorned with finery to signify their authority and godliness, so too does this verse attribute such splendor to God, emphasizing His exalted nature and reign over all creation.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment -Referring to the first work of creationGenesis 1:3, “And God said, Let there be light, and there was light.” He seemed to put on light as a garment; he himself appeared as if invested with light. It was the first “manifestation” of God. He seemed at once to have put on light as his robe. Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain -As an expanse spread over us. The word used here means a curtain or hanging, so called from its tremulous motion, from a word meaning to tremble. Thus it is applied to a curtain before a door; to a tent, etc.
