Proverbs 3:15

"For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold."

Key Reflection

The proverb in Proverbs 3:15 emphasizes the value of wisdom over material wealth. In this context, "wisdom" (חָכְמָה, chokmah) is not just intellectual knowledge but encompasses a deep understanding that leads to wise living and guidance. The verse suggests that the benefits derived from wisdom—both in practical outcomes and personal fulfillment—are superior to the tangible value of silver or fine gold. This teaching highlights how embracing wisdom can provide enduring and meaningful rewards, far surpassing the temporary and finite gains of material possessions.

Rubies -Theפניניםpânı̂ynı̂ymwere among the costly articles of traffic, and red or rose-coloredLamentations 4:7. The last fact has led some to identify them with coral, or (as in the King James Version) with “rubies.” Most commentators, however, have identified them with pearls, which may connect this passage withMatthew 7:6;Matthew 13:45. The words of the promise here are almost the echo of1 Kings 3:11-13.
