Numbers 16:10

"Is it a small thing to you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself, to do the service of the LORD’s tabernacle, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them;"

Key Reflection

For the Israelites of Moses' time, being selected by God for a special role such as the priesthood was not a minor matter but a significant honor and responsibility. The verse highlights that Aaron and his sons had been set apart from the rest of the people to serve in the tabernacle and act as intermediaries between God and the congregation. This distinction was meant to underscore their unique relationship with God, yet it also carried a weighty burden, as evidenced by the complaints and challenges they faced from others like Korah and his followers, who questioned why these individuals were singled out for such duties.
