Numbers 14:35
"After the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, you will bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you will know my alienation.’"
Key Reflection
After the Israelites spent forty days scouting the Promised Land, Moses instructed them that each day of reconnaissance would equate to a year of punishment; thus, they would wander in the wilderness for forty years. This period of exile served as divine retribution for their lack of faith and refusal to enter the land, teaching them the severity of their disobedience and God’s alienation from those who disobey His commands.
