Matthew 25:40

"When did we see you sick or in prison and come to you?’"

Key Reflection

In Matthew 25:40, Jesus challenges his disciples by asking when they saw him sick or in prison without helping him, emphasizing that acts of compassion towards the needy are acts toward himself. This highlights the spiritual principle that caring for others is an expression of faith and love.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 40. One of the least of these. One of the obscurest, least known, poorest, and most despised and afflicted. My brethren. Either those who are Christians, whom he condescends to call brethren, or those who are afflicted, poor, and persecuted, who are his brethren and companions in suffering, and who suffer as he did on earth. See Heb 2:11; Mt 12:50.
