At the ninth hour, during the third watch of the evening when shadows were long and despair might seem profound, Jesus uttered a cry in Aramaic, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” This phrase resonated deeply with the original audience, as it echoed Psalm 22:1, which begins similarly.
