Luke 23:44

"Jesus said to him, “Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”"

Key Reflection

In Luke 23:44, Jesus speaks to the repentant thief crucified beside him, assuring him, "Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise." For the original audience, this would have been a powerful statement of faith and hope, as it directly addressed the immediate fate of the dying man. In first-century Jewish thought, "Paradise" referred to the sacred garden of Eden or a special section of Sheol reserved for righteous souls awaiting the final resurrection, thus providing comfort and assurance in the midst of death and despair.
