Luke 23:32

"For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?”"

Key Reflection

In Luke 23:32, Jesus uses the metaphor of a "green tree" that is hard to set on fire and a "dry tree" that burns easily to suggest that if the Romans can mistreat an innocent figure like himself (the green tree), they will surely do even greater harm to the guilty nation (the dry tree). This prophecy foreshadows the impending judgment and destruction that would come upon Jerusalem.
