Joshua 24:15

"“Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth. Put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, in Egypt; and serve the LORD."

Key Reflection

This verse encourages a wholehearted commitment to serving the Lord, urging the Israelites to abandon their ancestral pagan practices and instead worship Yahweh genuinely and faithfully, reflecting a choice between false gods and the true God of their ancestors. It emphasizes both the fear or reverence due to God's authority and the sincerity required in one’s devotion, highlighting a radical shift from previous religious practices.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Choose -Service of God in sincerity and truth can only result from a free and willing allegiance of the heart. This accordingly is what Joshua invites, as Moses had done before him (Deuteronomy 30:15ff).
