Joshua 22:9

"and spoke to them, saying, “Return with much wealth to your tents, with very much livestock, with silver, with gold, with bronze, with iron, and with very much clothing. Divide the plunder of your enemies with your brothers.”"

Key Reflection

The verse from Joshua 22:9 instructs the Reubenites, Gadites, and half-tribe of Manasseh to return home with the spoils of war, including livestock, precious metals like silver and gold, and valuable goods such as clothing. This command reflects a context where military victory often came with significant material gains, which were to be shared among the tribes. The original audience would have understood that this not only acknowledged their successful conquest but also reinforced the idea that God's provision extended beyond just spiritual victory, encompassing material wealth as well.
